DIY Reed Diffuser: Zoflora Scents

reed difuser

I think it would be fair to say that most home owners have gone Mrs Hinch mad and now own at least one air freshener whether it be a plug in, a candle, an aerosol spray or a reed diffuser and if you are anything like me, then you will have a combination of all of the above. Personally, I find reed diffusers to be the most effective and they also help spruce up the decor while adding a pleasant scent.

Now unfortunately, my diffusers decided to dry up on me almost simultaneously thus leaving me with several empty jars and a pretty expensive list to replace my smellies.
It wasn't until I had my empty jars lined up that it occurred to me just how much of a perfect waste it was to throw them in the bin. With this thought in mind, I decided that it would be an interesting challenge to try and make my own scented oil mix using just a few simple ingredients and that was when my handy hack was created.

How to Guide

1. For the first step, you really just want to double check that your diffuser jars are empty, you can even give them a quick rinse out to clear any old scents so that they don't mix with your new oil mixture.

2. If you're using a clear jar, then this part is fairly straight forward. The key is to fill your diffuser jar with 2/3 oil. I personally find that the sweet almond oil works best but this oil has a slight yellow tinge to it which is noticeable in clear jars, some people may prefer to use baby oil or a fractionated coconut carrier oil which is super easy to buy online. You can pour the oil straight in to your jar if you have a steady hand or you may find it easier using a measuring jug or a funnel.

3. The next simple step is to add your favourite Zoflora scent to the mixture, making sure to follow the 1/3 measurement recommended. If you find that the scent is not strong enough, then feel free to add more Zoflora.

4.  Now you want to get your reed diffuser sticks and give the jars a quick mix in order to combine the oil and Zoflora solution.

5. Lastly, make sure you flare out your diffuser sticks and find the perfect spot to enjoy your, fresh new homemade diffuser!  😃

  2. Hi, I tried this using 2/3 fractioned coconut oil & 1/3 zoflora coastal breeze disinfectant. The liquids stayed separate, no matter how much I mixed them. What did I do wrong?
